A workshop detailing new state laws for well users is planned in San Luis Obispo this afternoon.
Those who divert water from a spring or pump groundwater from a known subterranean stream could face new state penalties if they don't file with the state by July 1.
Failure to file could lead to a $1,000 fine plus $500 per day fines, according to the state water board.
To help the public comply with the new regulation, the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau has a workshop planned for 1 p.m. today at its San Luis Obispo office, 651 Tank Farm Road.
The California Farm Federation's director of water resources will be present at the talk to give information and answer questions.
For more information on the workshop, call the bureau at 543-3654.
