To mark April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Sexual Assault Recovery and Prevention Center in San Luis Obispo is sponsoring events throughout the county to bring attention to the issue.
It started with the Take Back the Night Rally and Resource Fair at the downtown San Luis Obispo Farmers Market on Thursday.
Today, there will be a fundraiser at Chino’s Rock and Tacos at the Downtown Centre in San Luis Obispo and a women’s self-defense workshop in Shell Beach.
On Wednesday, between 5 and 8 p.m., Cal Poly’s Run to ReMEmber will raise money for the university’s Sexual Assault Free Environment Resource Program.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes starts at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in Mitchell Park. The eighth annual event features men walking in women’s shoes — usually high heels — to encourage men to help stop rape and other sexual assault.
There will also be fundraisers at Woodstock’s Pizza in downtown San Luis Obispo on Sunday and on April 26.
Bring an event flier to Woodstock’s and 25 percent of purchases will be donated to the SARP Center.
Yogurt Creations locations in Arroyo Grande, Atascadero and San Luis Obispo will also host fundraisers April 28 between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
