French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo has launched a $39 million redesign and expansion plan of its 40-year-old medical facilities.
The project, supported by hospital financing and community contributions, is expected to increase patient capacity and allow the hospital to upgrade its existing equipment. A new 12-bed cardiac day suite will be created, and the intensive care unit will be remodeled and expanded to hold 11 beds. As well, the emergency department will be remodeled and a new endoscopy suite will be built.
Included in the expansion project is a three-story, 4,300-square-foot physicians’ office building. The hospital also plans to transition its paper health records to electronic records.
The hospital, one of two Catholic Healthcare West hospitals in the county, has not undergone on a major renovation since it was first built.
In the last five years, patient admissions have increased 34 percent and are expected to increase another 35 percent by 2015.
The project is expected to be completed by 2014.
