An attic fire caused major damage to an Atascadero home Monday afternoon.
The fire was reported by the owner of the home at 6505 Santa Cruz Road at 3:34 p.m., according to Atascadero fire officials. When the first firefighters arrived, they saw the attic was completely engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke coming from the attic eaves around the home.
The fire was able to spread quickly because of blown-in insulation, according to a press release from the Atascadero Fire Department. That led to difficulties in dealing with and cleaning up the fire.
The blaze was controlled in 20 minutes.
