A fatigued driver crashed head-on into a semi-truck on Highway 46 Thursday morning, causing the road to be closed for three-and-a-half hours.
Domiro Ruiz, 34 of Soledad, was driving a 2006 Kia Spectra west on the highway at 75 mph, according to the CHP. Described as fatigued, he allowed the car to drift into the eastbound lanes just east of Antelope Road at 5:14 a.m.
Jason Rice, 33, was driving a 2000 Freightliner east at at 45 to 50 mph when he saw the car drift into his lanes. Rice, of Corning, slammed on the brakes and turned the wheel to avoid a collision.
The Kia, however, was traveling too fast and was too close to the big-rig to avoid the crash.

Ruiz was taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton with major injuries.
Rice had minor injuries and said he would seek his own treatment.
Highway 46 was closed until 8:45 a.m. so the truck, which was carrying a load of paper, could be removed from the roadway.
