A 69-year-old man was killed Monday morning when he rolled an all-terrain vehicle down a hillside on his rural Paso Robles property.
At about 9:30 a.m., William Schaffer of Paso Robles was driving a Kubota ATV on the property off Peachy Canyon Road when for reasons unknown, he made a turning movement that caused the vehicle to tumble down a steep hillside, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release. Schaffer was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was partially ejected from the vehicle as it rolled.
CHP Officer Patrick Seebart said Schaffer’s wife called authorities when she discovered the crash site.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel.
Drug or alcohol intoxication is not considered a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
