San Luis Obispo County families are invited Saturday to an event featuring helicopter landings, K-9s at work, SWAT team demonstrations and more as police and fire departments from across the county participate in the annual Sheriff’s Family Day.
The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Madonna Meadows off Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo.
Sponsored by the Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation, the day will feature the above-mentioned activities, as well as officers discussing careers in law enforcement. There will also be a demonstration by the Sheriff’s Bomb Task Force as well as a demonstration of how the Jaws of Life are used to rescue people trapped in wrecked vehicles.
In addition, booths will feature free child ID kits, a Crime Lab exhibit where kids can solve crimes and the Search and Rescue Unit that will teach kids how to locate missing persons. There will also be free balloons, activity books and face-painting.
Admission is free and children under 12 will also receive a free hot dog, a healthy drink and snack, a T-shirt, a Sheriff’s brag tag and the chance to win one of four refurbished bikes.
