The man was pulled from the water by a fellow passenger, who dove in after him, and a passing Morro Bay Oyster Company skiff. The man was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo and died Sunday.
The incident is being investigated by Morro Bay police and the Sheriff’s Office.
The man’s name has not been released, but police said he was from San Luis Obispo.

Boat owners Leonard and Midge Gentieu said in their statement, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of the guests onboard the Papagallo II over the weekend. On behalf of ourselves and the crew of the Papagallo II we extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends. We respect the family's need for privacy and time to heal during this time of sorrow and are praying for their well-being.”
Leonard Gentieu said he and his wife have been in contact with the family but declined to be interviewed.
