California National Guard soldiers from the Fresno-based 40th Combat Aviation Brigade will be at Camp Roberts north of San Miguel on Tuesday for a daylong air assault exercise in preparation for an upcoming deployment to Kuwait.
The operation will involve both morning and nighttime operations, the California National Guard said in a news release Monday.
During the exercises, Black Hawk helicopters belonging to the 1-140th Aviation Battalion, a Los Alamos-based unit, will transport several platoons of soldiers across Camp Roberts to landing zones as a part of the training.
Once on the ground, the soldiers will conduct foot patrols to the camp’s arms training center to practice combat exercises in urban terrain.
Never miss a local story.
The brigade is scheduled to travel to Fort Hood, Texas, later this year to conduct final preparations before deploying to Kuwait.
