The 31st annual California Coastal Cleanup Day is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Cleanups will take place at more than 800 beaches, bays, rivers and creeks statewide, including 30 locations in San Luis Obispo County.
The Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo, or ECOSLO, is seeking volunteers for the local cleanups, which will be held from San Simeon to Oceano Dunes. Volunteers will be provided with gloves, buckets, bags and pickup sticks. Or they can bring them from home, according to an ECOSLO news release.
For information on the 30 cleanup sites or to volunteer to help at one of them, call ECOSLO at 544-1777 or visit the website at http://ecoslo.org.
Never miss a local story.
Volunteers are also needed to help lead the event as a site captain. Call ECOSLO for information.
During last year’s Coastal Cleanup Day, about 1.1 million pounds of trash and recyclables were gathered by 66,844 volunteers statewide.
