San Miguel schools are gearing up to open Aug. 20. Lillian Larsen School has scheduled Back-to-School Night for transitional kindergarten through third grade from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Fourth through eighth grades will be on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Cappy Culver School also welcomes parents to Back-to-School Night on Wednesday: transitional kindergarten through fifth grade from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m., and sixth through eighth grades from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.

Vendors join shop

Jackson’s Old and New shop on 12th Street behind the Coffee Station has made room for vendors. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
The San Miguel Seniors want to thank everyone who supported their Taco Dinner fundraiser last Saturday.
At 6 p.m. Thursday is the community potluck, and on Friday, bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center, located at 601 East 12th St.
Lions plan picnic
The San Miguel Lions will hold their Old Timers Picnic on Sunday, Aug. 23. It is one of the first events for Pioneer Day Royalty, and is a must for members of pioneer families of the area. Everyone age 80 and older is served a free dinner, and stories abound.
