Hundreds of classic car enthusiasts and spectators will return to downtown Atascadero this month for Hot El Camino Cruise Nite.
Now in its 23rd year, Cruise Nite features a closed, controlled cruise route where families can check out hot rods and classic cars as they roll up El Camino Real from Curbaril Avenue to Traffic Way. The eventtakes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 21.
Construction currently underway to replace a Southern California Gas pipeline along El Camino Real will be complete prior to the city event, officials said.
Participants can pre-register their cars by visiting the Colony Park Community Center, 5599 Traffic Way, through 4 p.m. Aug. 7. Walk-in registration will continue Aug. 10 through 4 p.m. Aug. 21.

Same-day registration will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at San Luis and Pueblo avenues. Registration costs $26 per vehicle, or $36 on the night of the cruise.
Motorists can expect road closures during the event, including the following:
- East Mall from Lewis Avenue to El Camino Real;
Highway 41 will also be closed to through traffic at El Camino Real and Morro Road, while Traffic Way will be open to northbound traffic on El Camino Real only.
Pedestrians will be allowed to access businesses open to the public during the cruise time.
