Construction of Paso Robles' sewer plant
Order Reprint of this Story
Matt Thompson, Paso Robles wastewater manager, shows the site of one of three new clarifier ponds, 80 feet in diameter and 15 feet deep.
The biological nutrient removal system under construction in Paso Robles will snag all of the ammonia and most of the nitrates from the wastewater.
Paso Robles' 59-year-old sewer plant is seen in the background as construction continues on the new plant in September 2013.
A partially demolished pond at Paso Robles' old sewer plant acts as a retaining wall, while a temporary pipeline carries waste to be treated past the construction zone.
Andres Mendoza works with steel rebar more than an inch thick as he helps build the foundation of the Paso Robles' biological nutrient removal basin.
The headworks will seperate sand and solids from the waste flow.
The new sewer plant's control building will be heated by water from a hot springs on site. The orange pipe will provide radiant heat from the floor.
