A 29-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after stealing about $70 from Carl’s Jr. in Atascadero at knifepoint, fleeing the scene and attempting to carjack a driver, police said.
About 5:20 p.m., Atascadero police responded to the restaurant at 7085 El Camino Real and saw the man, later identified as Roberto Ramos, running away from the business.
A Carl’s Jr. employee told officers Ramos used a knife and demanded money from the employees, according to a release from the Atascadero Police Department.
Ramos reportedly ran into the nearby Vons parking lot and pulled a knife on another man, demanding the man give Ramos his car keys. The man gave Ramos the keys just as officers were pulling up to the location, the release said.
Ramos was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and attempted carjacking. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail and bail was set at $100,000.
Correction: An earlier version of this story stated Roberto Ramos was no longer in custody Wednesday night. Ramos remained in custody as of 7:50 p.m. Thursday.
