After a few construction delays, a $4 million membership-based tennis facility is now open to the public in the North County.
Templeton Tennis Ranch features courts and an 11,000 square-foot clubhouse with a fitness center, pro shop and locker rooms on a 5-acre site at 345 Championship Lane. There are also plans to open a swimming pool on the site in the summer of 2016. The ranch includes six lighted tennis courts, four lighted pickleball courts and a bocce ball court. Special features on the tennis courts include a cushion court as well as astadium court to eventually accommodate about 800 spectators for professional matches.
The tennis facility was slated to open in 2012, but the owners said it was delayed by financing. Construction ramped up in 2013 with an opening set for April 2014, but then design changes (adding a second story to the clubhouse) delayed the opening by another year, said Ralph Goehring, chief executive officer of the ranch.
Bakersfield residents Goehring and his wife, Judy, co-own the venture with Marc Eisemann of Templeton. The Goehrings also have a home in Cayucos.
A future phase of the project includes a bar and restaurant, though a timeline was not disclosed.
The second story of the clubhouse, still under construction and scheduled to be complete by the year’s end, will have an open-floor exercise room, a massage room, a business office and an event room for meetings and catered events.
The ranch’s grand opening was April 11.
