A new restaurant focusing on “the wine experience” is set to open up in The Creamery in San Luis Obispo within the coming months.
Foremost Wine Company, located in a 5,000-square-foot space at 570 Higuera St., doesn’t have a set opening date yet but will most likely open sometime in late September or mid-October, wine director Robin Puricelli said.
Wines from Murray’s vineyards will be on sale in the restaurant’s retail area, as well as in the 65-seat dining area, Puricelli said. Other local and international wine brands will be available for tasting or purchase as well, she said.
The food will mainly be small-plate, locally sourced dishes that average about $12 a piece, according to head chef Julie Simon, although they are looking into adding more expensive family-style platters. In the restaurant’s lounge area, “pinchos” — small snacks — will be available, instead of full meals, for about $3, she said.
Overall, the entire focus of the restaurant is on making wine “accessible to everyone,” Puricelli said.
“We want to open a new place for people to, you know, geek out over wine — from the novice, to the Cal Poly student, to the winemaker,” Puricelli said. “It’s going to be fun and approachable for everybody.”
