Lynn Diehl, a communications specialist and former television news anchor and reporter, has been named executive director of the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau. She will start Monday.
She replaces Marilyn Britton, who returned from retirement six months ago to fill the job temporarily after the departure of Jackie Crabb.
In noting Diehl’s selection, the Farm Bureau’s executive search committee cited her extensive communications background, including social media expertise, and broad experience working with legislative, government and corporate partners on various programs, issues and outreach, a news release said.
“We believe that Lynn has all the right skills, plus a dedication to agriculture and our community, that will help the SLO County Farm Bureau not only build on our great history but also lead us into the next exciting stage of our organization,’’ according to a statement released by Farm Bureau board president Carlos Castaneda.

Diehl said that in the immediate future she’ll be focused on collecting input and information from the bureau’s membership. She also will “be researching issues and topics that are important to the SLO County Farm Bureau,’’ she said, adding that it would be premature to set other priorities at this point.
Diehl, who lives in Shell Beach, grew up on a farm in West Virginia. Most recently she has been a spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation, Caltrans District 10.
Before that, she spent three decades working as a TV journalist, including on-air and management positions at California stations KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo, KCAL-KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, KOVR-TV in Sacramento and KNTV-NBC in the Bay Area. Diehl also has worked extensively with the wine industry.
The Farm Bureau, which traces its roots to 1921, is the largest general agriculture organization in San Luis Obispo County. It serves a combined membership of 2,000 countywide, according to information released late last year, and is constructing a new building off Broad Street across from the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport.
