OfficeMax in Paso Robles will close in November, a store manager confirmed Monday — possibly as part of the chain’s roughly 15 to 20 expected store closures throughout the country.
Requests for more information were directed to OfficeMax’s corporate headquarters in Naperville, Ill., which did not respond to requests for comment.
OfficeMax Inc. announced in May that it would pursue a reduction in total retail square footage by the end of the year, as a result of low first-quarter earnings. This included downsizing, relocation and closures at some of the office supply chain’s more than 900 locations throughout the United States and Mexico.
In Paso Robles, OfficeMax has operated in the approximately 22,000-square-foot site at 2155 Theatre Drive since 1999, when developer Jim Ellis of Ellis Partners Inc. built the surrounding shopping center, which also houses Target, Ross Dress for Less and Orchard Supply Hardware.
There are two other OfficeMax locations in San Luis Obispo County: one on Branch Street in Arroyo Grande and another at Froom Ranch Way in San Luis Obispo.
A manager at the Arroyo Grande location said he could not confirm whether the store would remain open, though a San Luis Obispo manager said the Froom Ranch Way location will.
An exact date has not been set for the Paso Robles store closure.
