A new pizza restaurant has come to downtown San Luis Obispo.
Firefly Pizzeria, which opened the day after Thanksgiving, is located at 1127 Garden St., the space formerly occupied by Bel Frites.
Owner Luciano Bardinelli said the restaurant offers home-made pizza, salad, pasta and dessert. With three employees, Firefly serves customers from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. to cater to the after-hours crowd.
A veteran in the restaurant business, Bardinelli said he’s not concerned that downtown San Luis Obispo has many new dining options.
“That never bothers me,” he said. “I do something that is original and authentic, and if some people recognize that, then you will have a following. There is always room for something good.”
Bardinelli, who opened his first restaurant in Las Vegas more than 30 years ago, has also owned eateries in Seattle and Pismo Beach, where in the mid-1990s he operated Sabbiedoro, an Italian restaurant on Price Street.
Bardinelli, the brother of Café Roma owner Maria Rosa, decided recently to return to the Central Coast from Seattle.
“It’s an opportunity to live in a place that is sunny and beautiful, and away from the rain of Seattle,” he said. “So being here, I felt like I wanted to do something and not get too lazy.”
Honor for Daylight Home: The International Casual Furnishings Association has named Daylight Home and Garden of San Luis Obispo one of five finalists in the single-store category for its 2012 Apollo Awards. The program recognizes retail excellence in the sales and marketing of outdoor furnishings. FBinalists must demonstrate accomplishments and commitment to customer service, according to a news release. Ten stores across the country were honored as finalists, according to the group’s website.
