Organizers of this month’s inaugural Foodie Festival in Grover Beach say they’re already planning to promote the event earlier next year to attract more participants in a tasting competition.
The May 20 event raised about $1,200 for the Grover Beach Chamber of Commerce to support its programs and services.
Held at Ramona Garden Park, it featured samples from five local food vendors and restaurants. Several hundred attended and had a chance to taste food for $1 per sample and vote for their favorites.
Doc Burnstein’s Ice Cream Lab took the overall prize as well as best dessert, while mobile food vendor KunFusion took prizes for best appetizer and entrée.
Never miss a local story.
Next year’s event will be held May 21.
“Although we would have liked to have had more vendors in our competition this year, we had a great turnout, and everyone enjoyed the food, beverages and fun,” said Brad Evans, owner of Stacked Sandwiches in Grover Beach and one of the event organizers.
Event sponsors included San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Adam Hill, Tolosa Press, New Times and The Beach 95.3.
