White House Black Market, a specialty retailer of women’s clothing, accessories and shoes, will open in the Court Street shopping center in San Luis Obispo in August in the second-story spot vacated by Talbots.
The boutique-style business began in 1985 in Baltimore as the White House, selling white and ivory clothing. The business expanded, opened two shops known as the Black Market and eventually combined the concept. In 2003, it was acquired by Chico’s FAS Inc., which also owns Chico’s, Soma Intimates and Boston Proper.
There are more than 365 White House Black Market boutiques and 25 outlets throughout the United States. The current closest retail location to San Luis Obispo is in Santa Barbara.
