Tickets for the third annual Sunset Savor the Central Coast Sept. 27-30 went on sale today – featuring a $100 weekend pass to the Main Event at Santa Margarita Ranch for those who buy their tickets this month.
The 50 percent discount is designed to reward those who buy early and plan their trips to the county, said Stacie Jacob, executive director of the San Luis Obispo County Visitors and Conference Bureau, which organizes the event with Sunset magazine.
Though this discount will expire at month’s end, the 15 percent discount for county residents to the Main Event will continue through Aug. 31, she said.
The Main Event offers wide-ranging experiences – including tastings from more than 30 local chefs and 200 wineries, artisan food purveyors, wine and food seminars and opportunities to learn more about backyard gardening and home décor.
Other activities during the four-day food-and-wine event include adventure tours, a reception at Hearst Castle and wine dinners.
By 7 a.m. today, organizers already had received $5,000 in ticket sales, Jacob said.
Last year’s event drew nearly 9,000, up 20 percent from 2010 – including about half from outside the county, and generated an economic impact of $2.93 million, officials said.
Organizers hope to draw 60 percent from outside the county this year, which in turn should generate a bigger economic impact due to increased hotel and restaurant expenses.
