James Statler has been named the new executive director of the San Luis Obispo-based Community Counseling Center.
He took over in June to oversee its two employees and 60 volunteer therapists.
The center works to provide counseling services designed to be affordable for uninsured and low-income residents in San Luis Obispo County.
Of the 60 therapists, two-thirds are licensed, while one-third are interns or trainees, Statler said.
Statler was previously the program manager of a teen leadership program through the Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County.
He’s also worked on local projects through the county in relation to teaching, teen pregnancy prevention, mental illness and Latino programs.
