The magazine Aviation Week and Space Technology, a prominent aerospace and defense industry publication, recently named Cal Poly the best in the nation for preparing its students for the work place.
Cal Poly moved up to the top spot after a second-place ranking in 2009.
The magazine’s list of top schools, in order, is the following: Cal Poly, Georgia Institute of Technology, Pennsylvania State University, Virginia Tech and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (tied), and Purdue University.
According to Aviation Week, the magazine considered the academic reputation of the institutions and the success of their graduates in compiling its list.

Yogurt shop closes, maternity moves in
Country Culture Yogurt Bar in downtown San Luis Obispo at the Mission Mall on Higuera Street closed earlier this month.
The owner, Norma Ray Haynes, could not be reached. But customer Wren Mead, who frequented the shop twice a week and is a friends of Haynes’, said business got too slow to sustain it.
She called Haynes “a wonderful woman … always friendly and patient, even with people who couldn’t make up their minds of what size, flavor or topping to choose … It was very like her to call you ‘hon.’ ”
Simply Mama, a maternity shop next door, plans to expand into the yogurt space.
That store does not have enough room for baby furniture and other products mothers are looking for, said its owner, Kathleen Huggins.
Simply Mama’s space will grow from about 750 square feet to 2,000 when reconstruction is completed, probably in mid-October, Huggins said.
