Those looking to get a jump on Black Friday shopping will be out of luck this year at certain SLO County retailers.
More than 75 nationally known retailers have announced that they will be bucking the recent trend of opening for early Black Friday shoppers on Thanksgiving night, according to bestblackfriday.com. In order to compile the list, bestblackfriday.com confirmed the closures with representatives from each of the retailers listed.
The practice of opening on Thanksgiving for Black Friday shoppers began with Sears in 2010, according to Business Insider.

According to a survey of 523 American adults older than 18 conducted by bestblackfriday.com, 57 percent of respondents do not favor stores opening on Thanksgiving, compared to 16 percent favoring openings. When the website asked retailers why they were choosing to stay closed on Thanksgiving, the majority said they wish to offer both employees and customers an opportunity to enjoy the holiday with family.
Here is a list of national chains with SLO County locations that will be closed on Thanksgiving:

And here are retailers that are expected to close their doors on Thanksgiving, but have not yet confirmed if they will:

▪ Big 5 Sporting Goods
▪ Barnes & Noble
