The Morro Bay Fire Department received an unexpected yet much appreciated $25,000 donation for its fire station project earlier this week.
Fire officials said they received a phone call from the anonymous donor’s financial institution on Monday notifying them of the donation.
The money will be put in a fund along with $1,000 from previous donations and will be used toward revamping the aging facility.
The nearly $8.5 million two-phase project includes reconstruction of the Harbor Street station that sustained roof damage in the 2003 San Simeon earthquake.
That is expected to be completed by spring 2008. Facilities included in the second phase of construction include living quarters and a small medical treatment facility.
