More than a dozen Morro Bay residents helped mark hundreds of storm drains throughout the city last week with special plaques reminding residents that those drains flow into the Morro Bay Estuary and the ocean.
The blue and green discs will replace the stenciled “no-dumping” signs on the drains. Other cities including San Luis Obispo, Avila Beach, and Nipomo currently use the discs.
Morro Bay resident and Eagle Scout Tyler Fraser teamed up with the National Estuary Program and the city to implement the project as part of this year’s Earth Day celebration.
Residents who notice unmarked storm drains are asked to call the National Estuary Program office at 772-3824.
Never miss a local story.
