This week, San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter volunteer Ellen Perryess features senior kitty Nubby and several opportunities to adopt shelter pets at adoption events Saturday.
Nubby’s a full-figured senior manx kitty who — because of her nub-like tail — looks like a cute cross between a cat and a bunny rabbit. She has brilliant green eyes and a rich gray tabby coat with creamy markings, including little white feet. Though her life hasn’t always been easy, she’s spent her years wisely perfecting her lounging techniques, and she still likes to play; see Nubby in action in her YouTube video at http://youtu.be/EbIK0y2FWDc.
Nubby purrs appreciatively when receiving a head rub, though — perhaps because of the noisy bustle of the SLO County Animal Services Shelter — she doesn’t like to be picked up. The volunteers speculate that once in a home, Nubby will blossom into an excellent lap cat.
Currently, there’s an abundance of cats of all ages at the shelter. Because of the prolonged summer weather, litters are still coming in. Many of these late-arrival kittens will be looking for homes at the Templeton Farmers Market Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
Never miss a local story.
Additionally, on Saturday, cats of all ages will be available at the county shelter from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Arroyo Grande Lemos from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Nubby’s life has been full of unexpected changes. Given her appreciation of little kindnesses, caring people have likely come and gone in her life. After 11 years of uncertainty, Nubby would certainly appreciate a forever home for a change. For more information about Nubby, ID No. 201269, call the volunteer line at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Shelter at 781-4413 or visit http://www.sloanimalservices.com.
