This week’s San Luis Obispo County Animal Services Shelter featured pet is longtime resident Maybelline. Volunteer Ellen Perryess shares more about her:
Maybelline is a 6-year-old American bulldog who’s been in the SLO County Animal Services shelter for three months. She’s been there so long volunteers have a good idea what she might be thinking:
“It seems my appearance matters more to people than who I am, I am my heart.
“I love deeply and I don’t care who sees me loving those who are important to me. You can see what I mean by watching my slideshow at: http://youtu.be/1Rgdmc7Vvqc.
Never miss a local story.
“If I have one weakness it’s squirrels. I lose all common sense around rodents. Truth is, I have a thin scar on my head from when I dashed under a barbed wire fence after a squirrel. It’s not the squirrel’s fault, I just couldn’t resist.
“I get along with other low-key dogs but, honestly, I’m all about loving the people who love me. I’m so tired of not having a home. I know I’m not for everyone, I’m big-boned — OK, I’m a big dog, but my heart’s just as big.
“Love doesn’t come without some uncertainty, but I can guarantee this: if you love me, I’ll love you with all I have.”
Every homeless dog has a match out in the world. Maybelline’s looking for someone who sees beauty in her big bones, pumpkin head and humongous heart.
Because love isn’t the box, it’s what’s found inside.
