Rattlesnake avoidance training
Rattlesnake avoidance training for dogs will be held Saturday in San Luis Obispo. The daylong training session will teach your dog to avoid the sight, sound and smell of a rattlesnake once they become aware of one, giving you peace of mind and potentially saving both you and your dog’s life by alerting you to the presence of arattlesnake. Heilmann Dog Park’s Dogtoberfest will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at Atascadero Lake Park. The event includes wiener dog and wiener wannabe races, vendors and nonprofit groups with giveaways and product information, animal adoptions, raffle, barbecue lunch and pet costume contest. Foxy Doxy donations
The Foxy Doxy Dachshund and Dog Rescue is seeking donations to purchase a used truck to help with transporting animals to and from adoption events as well as from San Luis Obispo County to the Bakersfield and Fresno areas to rescue dogs in highkill shelters.

Dog park volunteers needed
El Chorro Dog Park needs volunteers to assist in park maintenance, participate in workdays and fun events and to join the SLO-4-PUPS board. Adopt a cat in SLO
The Feline Network of the Central Coast holds kitten adoptions from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday at Petco in the Madonna Shopping Center in San Luis Obispo.
Kittens and cats have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and tested for leukemia and FIV. Adoption fee is $60. For information on adoptions and low-cost spay or neuter in San Luis Obispo or the South County, and help with feral cats, call 549-9228.
Upcoming horse show
The Central Coast of California Arabian Horse Association will hold an Open All Breed Horse Show on Oct. 19 at Buckley Stable Arena in San Luis Obispo. Events include jumping, English, Western, trail, halter and showmanship.
