Are Star Wars nerds and craft beer fans one in the same? Duh. So for all you believers in the force who are also into juicy beers, two local breweries have developed a special lineup of brews.
“Half of our staff at the brewery are under the age of 35 and they are huge Star Wars fans,” said Mike Cruz, president of Tioga Sequoia. “And I think a lot of craft beer drinkers are also major fans of the movies.”
Cruz said part of the fun in paying homage to the movie franchise is coming up with the names for the beers. The downtown Fresno brewery released “Darkness Rises,” an 8 percent ABV (alcohol by volume) black double IPA. It’s well-hopped with Simcoe, Columbus, Lemon Drop, Eureka and Glacier hops.
Never miss a local story.
There is also “Light To Meet It,” an 8 percent hazy West Coast double IPA hopped with Simcoe, Cryo and Citra.
The limited-release beers come in cans featuring a label designed by East Coast graphic artist Dean McKeever.
The beer makers at the House of Pendragon have come up with Qui Gon Jinn and Juice with Pineapple. The beer is also a double IPA that packs an 8 percent ABV. A few of those will easily send you into hyperdrive.
And if there is a dark side to this story, it’s that the beers are going quickly. To get a taste, you may have to visit their respective tasting rooms: House of Pendragon, 1345 N. Willow Ave., Clovis; and Tioga Sequoia Brewing Company, 745 Fulton St., downtown Fresno.
