If your idea of perfection is a sumptuous meal paired with exquisite Central Coast wines, you’re in luck.
Now in its second year, Sunset Savor the Central Coast offers plenty of events to tickle the taste buds and indulge the senses.
Last year’s festival drew about 7,200 food-and-wine enthusiasts over four days, according to Steve Burns, in charge in sponsorship, marketing and promotions for Savor. Organizers hope to attract at least 8,000 this fall.
“The overall goal at this event is obviously bring people into San Luis Obispo County,” Burns said.
Savor the Central Coast kicks off Sept. 29 with an elegant evening soiree at Hearst Castle featuring artisan cocktails and prestigious small-lot wines. On Sept. 30, festival attendees can participate in several adventure tours, including visits to Morro Bay Oyster Company and Happy Acres Goat Farm in Templeton, before heading to the Pismo Beach Pier for the Sunset 2011 Western Wine Awards Gala.
About 30 chefs and more than 150 wineries will dish out delicacies at the Main Event, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 at Santa Margarita Ranch. Attractions include a two-acre kitchen garden, food and gardening demonstrations, cooking challenges and seminars by the likes of “Iron Chef America” champ Cat Cora, Harris Ranch chef Anthony Hagans and Monterey Bay Aquarium consulting chef Cindy Pawlcyn.
Also on Oct. 1, downtown San Luis Obispo plays host to the al fresco dining event Savor the Mission Plaza, while the Paso Glow transforms Paso Robles’s City Park into a culinary paradise.
