A San Luis Obispo man made quite an impression on Thursday night's episode of "The X Factor" — though probably not the one he was going for.
"It was like something out of a lunatic asylum," Simon Cowell told Neal Macomber after his audition on the reality TV singing competition.
Macomber, a 45-year-old contractor, sang "Everybody Talks" by Neon Trees for judges Cowell, Kelly Rowland, Paulina Rubio and Demi Lovato — whom he serenaded, much to her apparent horror.
"If this was a movie," Cowell continued, "this would be like 'Nightmare on Elm Street.'"
Never miss a local story.
Some "X Factor" viewers seemed to agree with Cowell's assessment on Twitter:
I love how when this Neal guy started singing one woman screams in horror like she was being murdered LOL #Xfactor— Ronnie Talbott (@RonnieTalbott) September 27, 2013
That was painful #xfactor I need a drink after Neal Macomber.— Robert Anton (@SoUWanaBaSinger) September 27, 2013
But not all viewers' reactions were so bad:
Still, the decision was unanimous: Macomber was sent home.
