Local CD Pick: Dorian Michael, "Sycamore Creek"

A self-professed blue-collar guitarist, Dorian Michael plays many styles of music, from blues to rock to jazz. This collection of solo acoustic guitar songs features relaxing instrumental music in the tradition of Leo Kottke. The soft melodies conjure images of sun rays and bubbling mountain streams — which is appropriate, as many of the song titles have some connection to water. Michael’s finger-picking style is crisp and clean and the progressions are inventive. Michael, who has been playing guitar for 40 years, performs around the country and records regularly (he also has a blues CD out).
