Ainsley Delmore of Atascadero and her sheep were looking pretty in pink in the Ladies & Lads Lead competition Monday evening at the California Mid-State Fair.
Delmore took first place in the ladies’ junior division of the competition, while Abigail Venturini of Paso Robles was the only senior division competitor. Adrian Zambrano of San Miguel placed first in the lads’ division.
According to Jackie Eshelby, the fair’s special projects coordinator, this year’s competition featured three male and 12 female competitors between the ages of 9 and 19. It was open to youths from Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.
Both the participants and their animals — breeding ewes or market lambs — wear homemade matching outfits made from material that is at least 70 percent wool.
