As I sit and stew about being locked out of a favorite gallery on two occasions, I am reminded of the locally produced art that hangs in everyday places around the county. No appointment necessary, just go about your business and enjoy.
Village Creek Painters are showing their work at Village Framing at 121 W. Branch from 5 to 8 p.m.through Jan. 16 and donating 25 percent of the proceeds to the El Camino Art Association scholarship fund. Regular hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Owner Jim Radwick says he was happy to let this talented group decorate the shop.
The dozen or so artists represented tend toward landscapes and still lifes in oil or watercolor. Most are framed and Joan Skinner of the Village Creek group has quite a few more matted watercolors for sale.
Sonny Salsbury’s work is also on display. His paintings of downtown Pismo Beach and the Village of Arroyo Grande have a fun folk art feel. Take a look at http://sonnysals.com/gallery.htm
Never miss a local story.
If you find yourself wine tasting with family and friends during the holidays, consider a stop at Castoro Cellars in Templeton. They are known for “dam fine wine” and high caliber music events. They also make room for art on their Mediterranean style grounds. This month Diana Mendoza is exhibiting oil and mixed media paintings. She calls the show “Angels and Cut-ups.” Castoro Cellars is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily at 1315 N. Bethel Road.
Two other wineries are also featuring artists this month. Sandi Heller is showing pastel landscape paintings at Stolo Family Winery at 3776 Santa Rosa Creek Road in Cambria. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday. See Dean Crawford Jr.’s photography at Pianetta Winery’s downtown Paso Robles tasting room at 829 13th St.
Edward Jones Investments is another spot where you’ll want to poke around for a bit while taking care of business or consider making a special visit to see new artwork by Bobbye West-Thompson and Teri Miller. “Adventures in Light & Color” runs through January at 1236 Los Osos Valley Road, Suite J, in Los Osos.
