Comedian and actor Russell Brand will kick off a new comedy series at the Fremont Theatre next month, Bruce Howard of Otter Productions announced Thursday.
The newly created Fremont Theatre Comedy Club’s first featured act will appear Aug. 16 in a show that’s expected to sell out quickly.
Brand, an English actor and comic, had his breakthrough role in America with the film “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” in 2008. He was also in “Get Him to the Greek,” “Rock of Ages” and “Bedtime Stories.”
Also known for his brief marriage to Katy Perry, Brand is also an acclaimed comic, who won several awards for his stand-up before he became known in America.
His Messiah Complex World Tour, with a stop at the Fremont, is his first world tour. The show will begin at 8 p.m., and Brand will perform for 75 to 90 minutes.
Tickets, which will go on sale July 30 at 11 a.m., can be obtained through VALLITIX, or in person at Boo Boo Records or the California Mid-State Fair.
The Fremont, which opened in 1942 with guests Laurel & Hardy, has mostly been solely a movie venue, though it has recently hosted music concerts by acts including Lindsey Buckingham and Taj Mahal.
