A former San Luis Coastal Unified School District Superintendent pleaded not guilty Friday to child molestation charges.
Irv Nikolai appeared in a Washington County, Ore. courtroom to enter the pleas to four felony charges of first-degree molestation, according to a District Attorney’s Office official. He is scheduled to return to court June 16 for a pretrial hearing.
Nikolai was arrested after a 7-year-old told investigators he touched her genitals during a birthday party in Hillsboro, a suburb of Portland near Forest Grove.
He led the San Luis Coastal school district from 1984 to 1989 and served as superintendent of Forest Grove, Ore., schools from 1990 to 1999. He has also served as an occasional interim superintendent for other districts.
Nikolai resigned from his job as interim superintendent of La Grande, Ore., schools after his arrest.
