Veterans and the general public are being invited to participate in the Veteran Job-Resource Fair and Stand Down May 29 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 801 Grand Avenue, San Luis Obispo. The event will last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Organizers hope to inform veterans about the special employment opportunities and services provided by surrounding communities. San Luis Obispo County has approximately 26,000 veterans – about one-tenth of the county’s population.
The event consists of providing employment opportunities; service provider needs-based services; and the homeless veterans stand down and community homeless services components, to help homeless veterans and others break the homeless cycle.
Milt Batson of the Department of Employment Development says the department expects collaboration among employers, service providers, and community-based organizations.
The department aims to also help families of veterans, as well as those currently serving.
Congress has proclaimed May "National Military Appreciation Month."
For more information, contact Batson at 788-2687 or e-mail mbatson1@edd.ca.gov.
