Man convicted in Downey Savings robbery

A Southern California man was convicted today of four counts of second-degree robbery and related criminal street gang activity in the robbery of Downey Savings and Loan in San Luis Obispo on Nov. 21.

Dejuan Javier, 23, was convicted of the charges after a jury trial that lasted about a week, according to prosecutor Matt Kraut.

Kraut said that Javier faces up to 18 years in state prison. His sentencing is scheduled for June 6.

Javier was one of two men who went into the bank wearing a mask during a hold-up, according to Kraut. One of the men used a BB gun to threaten bank employees, but Kraut said he didn’t believe it was Javier who held the gun. The other man has not been found by police.

Two other people were also involved in the robbery, prosecutors said. One - Leonard Jones - is one of six men accused of planning a Dec. 13 robbery of Los Padres Bank in San Luis Obispo. The other has not been arrested.
