Man who molested 6-year-old relative sentenced

A 73-year-old man was sentenced to jail Wednesday for molesting a relative.

Curtis Joseph Perrett of Madera County was ordered to serve a year in County Jail, three years of probation and register as a sex offender for molesting his then 6-year-old relative.

Perrett appeared in court after pleading no contest — which results in a conviction without admitting guilt—to two felony counts of committing a lewd or lascivious act on a child.

Prosecutors allege he molested his relative in Atascadero in January 2006 and in Madera County in November 2007.

The girl’s father, whom The Tribune is not identifying to protect the identity of the victim, told Superior Court Judge Martin Tangeman that Perrett destroyed the trust they had in him as a family member.

“He took a part of her innocence that she’ll never get back,” the father said. “The punishment does not fit the crime.…He’ll be done with this in a year. She’ll be dealing with this forever.”
