San Jose man recovering after crash at Oceano Dunes

A 29-year-old man from San Jose has improved from critical to serious condition after a crash on an all-terrain vehicle at the Oceano Dunes on Saturday night.

Jose Guadalupe Vasquez-Delgado is being treated in the intensive care unit at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, according to hospital spokesman Ron Yukelson.

Vasquez-Delgado sustained a head injury in the solo ATV crash. He underwent a chemically-induced coma to reduce swelling in his brain, said Andrew Zilke, the local superintendent of the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreational Area. Zilke said officials had been checking on his condition at the hospital.

Zilke said that a blood test was taken of Vasquez-Delgado after the crash, and that agency officials suspected alcohol use, but the investigation is still ongoing.
