An entertainment lineup featuring the biggest names in rock, pop and country has enabled the California Mid-State Fair to remain financially strong despite the poor economy.
Months before entertainers ever set foot onstage, tour managers and production staff hammer out the details of rider contracts -- complex documents that include specifications on everything from stage design to dressing room accommodations.

The California Mid-State Fair generated an estimated $52.4 million in spending in 2009, according to a state study last fall.
Shuttles make stops in Santa Maria, Nipomo, Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo and Atascadero. Round-trip shuttle wristbands can be purchased for $10 from the bus driver or AmericanStar Trailways at by calling (805) 543-9999. Net proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
