San Luis Obispo
City planner Michael Codron will become San Luis Obispo’s new housing programs manager, a position dedicated to expanding the city’s housing stock.
Codron shepherded the city’s new height ordinance through the process. It relaxed circumstances in which heights on downtown buildings could be raised to 60 feet, and allows buildings up to 75 feet tall.
Before that height ordinance, the city only allowed buildings to be 75 feet tall when they were designated as “landmark buildings” by the City Council. That designation had been controversial at times because it was given to such new buildings as the parking structure at 919 Palm St.
Codron also has worked on annexations into the city. The housing position has been vacant since April.

Arroyo Grande
The Arroyo Grande Police Department recently applied for a grant worth up to $1 million from the state’s Homeland Security Department to help expand or build a new police station.
The City Council voted to approve the application at its meeting July 22.
The funds would help the depart-
ment build a new emergency operations center in its existing location or at a new location. The department has outgrown its current station and has been planning on an expansion or a new location completely, City Manager Steve Adams said.
A new or renovated police station is estimated to cost between $4 million and $5 million.

Cal Poly
A Cal Poly chapter of the Tri Delta sorority recently was awarded the national sorority’s House of the Year award at its recent convention in Chicago.
Cal Poly’s chapter of the sorority is three years old, and the new house was opened a year ago to host chapter events and house members. Tri Delta has 182 chapters in the country, said Ashley Gambrell, the Cal Poly chapter’s president.
Regional field representatives determine awards based on quarterly visits to each of the national chapters.
The Cal Poly chapter was also recognized in its fundraising efforts for the sorority’s national charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, raising $18,679 in the second year of participation.
