Comments (0) | The Dana Adobe in Nipomo is seeking donations to help pay for the feed and veterinary care of its two burros.
The animals, named Polly and Darlene, arrived on the historic ranch in January 2005. Their presence adds to the educational experience of local schoolchildren and visitors every week, said the adobe’s publicist, Ethel Landers.
Visitors often bring the burros baby carrots and slices of apple or brush their coats.
The nonprofit organization that runs the adobe has a separate fund for care of the burros. But it has gotten smaller, said Landers.
“Every so often, we have to go out and seek donations for them,” Landers said.
Tax-deductible donations help provide for their feed and veterinary care and can be mailed to D. A. N. A., attention the Burro Fund, P. O. Box 729, Nipomo, CA 93444.
The Dana Adobe is open Sundays from noon to 4 p. m., and group tours are available on other days by appointment.
