Comments (0) | A Grover Beach man accused of shooting and injuring a Santa Maria man during a fight was sentenced to jail and probation.
Peter Ramos, 46, was sentenced June 4 to two months in jail and three years of probation, according to court records. He had pleaded no contest—which results in a conviction without admitting guilt — on May 5 to felony possession of a firearm.
The gun charge stemmed from an April 2 incident that left David Gage, 40, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen at 638 Seabright Ave. in Grover Beach.
Gage was the boyfriend of Ramos’ then-roommate Holly Walls. Gage visited Walls after the couple had argued and saw her socializing with a friend of Ramos. Gage reportedly became jealous and challenged the friend to fight, according to a police interview with Ramos.
Ramos said he feared for his friend’s safety and went to grab a .38-caliber pistol from underneath his mattress. Gage lunged at him and Ramos fired a warning shot at the floor, according to Ramos’ account. The two began struggling and the gun fired again, according to Ramos.
It was unclear to police if Ramos had fired the gun accidentally or intentionally.
Gage was treated at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital for the gunshot wound.
Ramos was arrested later that night.
