Nutritionist Julie Andrews-Scott, 38, has been active in Avila Beach’s redevelopment. Founder and manager of the 4-year-old Avila Beach Fish and Farmers Market, she assists similar markets forming in other communities.
A founding member of the Avila Beach Community Foundation, she has also served on the Avila Valley Advisory Council and the town’s business and civic associations. Part of a committee overseeing development of the Fossil Point/Indian Head Point area, she advocates building a Chumash healing center.
She moved to the beach town 12 years ago with her mother, Betty Andrews, and her husband, Darrin Scott. Finishing her master’s in nutrition at Cal Poly, she teaches health and wellness in a variety of local programs.
“An integral part of teaching these idealist messages is actually practicing them,” she said.
Daughters Josephine, 12, and Madeline, 10, attend Bellevue Santa Fe Charter School, where their mother volunteers in gardening and cooking, art and yoga classes.
Nominator Michele Toone described Andrews-Scott as “a shining beacon of enthusiasm, energy and creativity, who is helping engage the community of Avila in becoming involved in its own destiny, with concern for all citizens.”
