Carlos Castañeda, President, Mission Labor; partner, Castañeda & Sons Inc.
The child of a farm worker, Carlos Castañeda, 30, is motivated by the sacrifices made by his parents, Carlos Adan and Mercedes Castañeda, and the work ethic they instilled.
As president of Mission Labor Inc. and a partner at Castañeda & Sons Inc., where he works with his father, he provides labor for small and large agricultural operations from Paso Robles to Lompoc.
“I know what it is like when there is work one week and none the next,” he said. “I believe my duty to this community is providing steady work for several hundred families so they can keep food on their tables.”
Nominator Nicholas Miller of Paso Robles Wine Services said, “Carlos lights up everyone around him. He is hard working, honest, bright, selfless, giving, bilingual, proactive.”
Castañeda grew up in the South County and now lives on the same property with his newlywed wife, Rocio, his parents, his sister and nephew. He’s been involved in the California Agricultural Leadership Program, the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau, other trade organizations and the YMCA. He regularly speaks about immigration issues related to agriculture at local and regional forums.
