Financial planner Craig Darnell, 27, and his assistants at Blakeslee & Blakeslee manage $125 million in assets. He interned at the firm while studying global strategy law and economics at Cal Poly, then purchased his Blakeslee & Blakeslee practice at age 22. He was president of the Associated Students of Cuesta College as a student there.
“I saw the need to create a central location where students can be connected with employers in the community,” he said, which led to the creation of Cuesta College Career Connections.
Originally from Grenada Hills, he moved to San Luis Obispo in 1992 when his father retired from the Los Angeles Police Department. His mother, Marilyn Darnell, lives in Avila Beach, and his brother is a captain in the Army. A member of the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo Daybreak, Darnell also supports ALPHA and Family Care Network.
“He is a home-grown success story,” said nominator Diane Blakeslee Brocato, founder of Blakeslee & Blakeslee. “It was through focus and hard work that he achieved his goal of business ownership.”
