Broadcaster Ben Greenaway, 27, enjoys learning about other cultures. In junior high, his family moved from Atascadero to Austria for three years. As an international business student at Cal Poly, he studied in Germany for two years. There he met his wife, Meike.
Now the former program director for KVEC radio station is in India, selected by The Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange program. In the fall, Greenaway hosted an Indian dentist who visited through the program, which promotes an understanding of foreign cultures and economies.
“In a small way, it adds to that goal of promoting peace in the world,” Greenaway said.
At KVEC, he helped nonprofits publicize events and programs and collected recordings for a local oral history project. In 2004, Cal Poly recognized the one-time KCPR disc jockey and news director for excellence in journalism. The San Luis Obispo resident also sings in the Grace Church choir.
Nominator Curtis Reinhardt of Reinhardt Event Services in Pismo Beach said, “Ben Greenaway represents a new generation of young business persons who seem to be more concerned about community and society than about themselves.”
